You basically have a full set of raster graphics tools for transforming, editing and creating artwork. If you prefer to have a simple uncluttered workspace, this is probably where you want to start out. Its simple interface includes all the main editing and retouching tools and features. The Essentials workspace – ideal for beginner to intermediate level users. On the bottom right, there’s an icon labeled “Instant Effects” which will launch as a window for you to use to select and apply the presets (if you see one you like, it will apply it to the image by double clicking the thumbnail). Back and Forward buttons also help with this. After all, there are certainly times when you’ve adjusted a photo excessively and just want to start over. There’s also a Revert button at the bottom of the corrections panel. Photo Fix also shows before and after views so you can see the results of your adjustments and edits. You can click a neutral spot to correct the white balance and use a Levels slider to balance a lopsided histogram. The One Step Photo Fix dialog gives you a lot more control. The More dropdown gives you a few more options to choose from. On the bottom are PaintShop’s more powerful tools such as One Step Photo Fix (automatically apply color and sharpening corrections), Brightness & Contrast (note – be sure to check “preview on image” to view in real time), White Balance (adjusts colors in an image), Color Adjust (allows hue adjustments), High Pass Sharpen Tool (enhances the clarity of pixelated images), and One Step Noise Removal. The top bar is home to basic editing tools like pan, zoom, flip and rotate. The Photography workspace is the default workspace when you first open PaintShop Pro.
